I met Bill and Chris at a franchise show—not as a prospective buyer, but as a seller of franchises. Bill and I struck up a conversation and I guess you could say the rest is history. 

I had some experience in the industry and I knew I could make UWD a success in Waco. It’s an easy business to start. The overhead was low and I knew I could sell the product. 

In my first 10 months in business I did a million dollars in sales. This year I’m on pace to double that number. 

What’s the secret to my success? I get calls from other dealers asking me that question a lot. I tell them not to put all of their eggs in one basket. 

I thought I could start with just a couple of different marketing avenues and learned quickly that was not the case. You need to invest in all avenues. It’s difficult to generate leads from just a few sources. You need to be a presence in all sources to succeed. 

Plus, by layering my marketing efforts, I’m creating better brand awareness. So when someone hears my radio commercial and gets home to do a search of window companies, UWD pops up to remind them I’m here. 

And that’s another key area where I’ve invested—my website. The best tip I can give to all of you is to properly have your website optimized. A lot of companies will promise to get you on the first page of Google, but make sure you go with the company that knows how to optimize your site. If your website isn’t properly optimized, you’re probably missing out on a lot of business. 

When it comes to the UWD system, I follow it pretty closely. It’s a good system and it’s been proven to work. So make it easy on yourself and follow it. 

Layer your marketing and use a broad brush to brand yourself. You’ll be happy you did.
