As a former contractor who worked in the industry for more than 30 years, I know what works and what doesn’t when it comes to home improvement. That’s why, despite all of the naysayers, I decided to open my UWD dealership in Las Vegas three years ago. Nobody thought we’d survive let alone thrive. But I knew we would. I knew because I wholeheartedly believe in the UWD selling system—and you should, too.

From day one we’ve followed the program to the letter and our first year did $1 million in business. This, despite the fact that we launched when the housing market was down and unemployment was at its highest.

Since our launch, we’ve doubled our showroom space and added more employees. We started with four canvassers and now have 10. Canvassing is 25 percent of our budget. I also spend thousands each month on key words, pay-per-clicks, and SEO. Our sales force and canvassers are trained by corporate and participate in every webinar and training opportunity offered to the team.

I’m too busy to have a hands-on role with our sales force and that works just fine. I’m free to handle the operations side of things, even though I still go out occasionally to write deals. I just can’t get it out of my blood.

What I don’t do is stray from the beaten path. If your phone isn’t ringing it’s because you aren’t following the program. You should have five to six lead sources going at all times. You have to spend money to make money. That’s a proven fact.

We’ll do $3 million this year, and if you take one thing from this story it should be this: I am living proof that the UWD selling system works. Follow the format to a “T” and you will be successful. If I can make it here, I know I can make it anywhere—and you can, too.
